“Top 40 or Die Trying” Out Now!
HeadStuff Podcasts is excited to announce the launch of new show, “Top 40 or Die Trying.” This absurdist comedy limited series promises a new and very unique listening experience for HeadStuff listeners.
“Top 40 or Die Trying” is the (mostly) true story of Shane Vincent McDermott’s attempt to have a hit single somewhere, anywhere in the world before turning 40 years of age. The journey takes us all around the world and introduces us to a host of wonderful, inspiring artists who teach us that the notion of success is something personal. That one shouldn’t tie their worth to the adulation of others. That we are all on our own artistic journeys.
We also meet a few undesirables along the way who are subsequently dealt with.
Part mockumentary, part surrealist comedy. 8 episodes that each culminate in the recording of a song that tries to emulate the success of Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and Puff Daddy, amongst others.
“Top 40 or Die Trying took one year to complete. I was inspired to make it by my own experiences as a struggling (possibly talentless) artist. There is a particular fear and/or vanity that infects men as they approach their 40th birthday. Especially if they feel they are yet to leave their creative mark on the world. This fear can often lead to questionable life choices, the more pathetic the funnier. My dream was always to be a successful musician and I’ve come to accept that this podcast is the closest thing I will get to releasing my debut album. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it.”
