Show Notes
As his career has moved through decades and crossed into a new century Willem Dafoe has only become more experimental and varied in his parts as he's aged. This week Stephen and Andrew tackle the vast array of roles he's played from 2000 to the present day. Beginning in 2000 with his Oscar nominated role in Shadow of the Vampire, Dafoe went on to play a second iconic villain as the Green Goblin in Spider-Man. His rarely used comedic talents were put to the test in Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and in 2007 with Mr Bean's Holiday. 2009 saw him in seven films including Lars Von Trier's Antichrist while his third Best Supporting Actor Oscar nod came in 2014 with Sean Baker's The Florida Project. 2018 saw a Volpi Cup win in Venice and his first Best Actor nomination at the Oscars as Vincent Van Gogh in At Eternity's Gate. In 2019 he starred opposite Robert Pattinson in Robert Eggers' salty, smoky seadog horror The Lighthouse and in Edward Norton's noir drama Motherless Brooklyn.
